Former United Way CEO appointed to Board of Trustees

1/9/2014

Edmonds Community College’s Board of Trustees has gained a new member, Carl Zapora.

In December, Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Zapora to serve a term which will run through September 2016. He replaces board member Wayne Brown, who left the position in December 2012 to move out of state.

Carl Zapora

Zapora, who lives in Edmonds, is the Superintendent of Public Hospital District No. 2 (PHD2) Snohomish County. He is responsible for the administration of the hospital district entity, financial and capital assets, and the development and launch of the PHD2’s health and wellness program, the Verdant Health Commission.

Previously, Zapora was the President and CEO of United Way of Snohomish County—a position he held for more than six years. He worked for United Way organizations for more than 30 years, including in Texas, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Zapora holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Albright College in Reading, Pa.

"I'm very pleased about Governor Inslee's appointment of Carl Zapora to our board," said Jean Hernandez, Edmonds CC President. "Carl has played a strong leadership role within many local organizations. His expertise and community connections will be invaluable to the continued growth of the college.”

Zapora joins chair Diana Clay, co-owner of Clay Enterprises LLC, a local real estate development business, who was reappointed by Gov. Inslee in December; Dick Van Hollebeke, a retired financial services business owner and a former Edmonds City Council member; Quentin Powers, Vice-President of Internal Audit, Compliance, and Ethics at Premera Blue Cross; vice chair Emily Yim, Executive Director of The Washington Alliance for Better Schools; and student trustee John Jessup.
